Airports in Switzerland

Switzerland has two main airports – Zurich and Geneva where most of the international traffic lands. Samedan is also quite nice for photography during wintertimes with a spectacular scenery.

For some people, the grounding of Swissair on 2 October 2001 was the worst moment of Swiss civil aviation. This event not only meant a new start in a – then – unknown future, but it also affected in particular Zurich Airport, where Swissair was the dominant carrier.

The following Swiss airports / airfields are visited on a frequent basis

Zurich – ZRH
The largest airport in Switzerland

Geneva – GVA
A good winter destination

Basle – BSL
Surprise visitors always possible

Samedan – SMV
For bizjets during the winter

Sion – SIR
Military airbase with civil traffic
