Due to Switzerlands neutrality international operations were all covered by special co-operation declaration / agreements granted by the Swiss Upper House of Parliament.
They are also conducted under special "Memorandum of Understandings", (MoU), signed with the relative countries involved. The co-operation with German armed forces (both the Luftwaffe and the Heer) was put on a legal basis in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on 14 May 2000. This MoU deals with the co-operation during exercises and during training. It therefore allows long distance navigation flights to military installations of the other country.
Switzerland and Germany have a joined operation in the Balkan peninsular with the Swiss unit deployed to KFOR formally belongs to the German batallion.
