The Swiss Air Force took delivery of the last two Pilatus PC-21 (A-107 and A-108) on 12 April 2012 at Emmen. The initial batch of 6 aircraft was purchased with the procurement plan of 2006. A follow-up order for two more aircraft was placed with Pilatus Flugzeugwerke AG in the procurement plan of 2010.
These aircraft will train the future jet pilots of the Swiss Air Force and enable them to transition directly onto the F/A-18 Hornet. The additional aircraft were ordered in light of the end of lifetime of the 12 Northrop F-5F Tiger II aircraft which were also used as advanced jet training aircraft.
