The first 3 helicopter of this type were procured in 1986 and the good experiences with them showed a need for further aircraft. A total of 12 additional machines was procured in 1989. All but two were assembled at the Aircraft Factory at Emmen in Switzerland. The last aircraft was handed over to the Swiss Air Force in June 1993. They now serve with 3 Squadrons and are supplemented there with some Alouette III. With the 1998 procurement programme, another batch of 12 aircraft was bought.
The Swiss Air Force is referring to the Super Puma as “Transporthubschrauber 86″ (T-311 to T-313), as “Transporthubschrauber 89″ (T-314 to T-325) and as “Transporthubschrauber 98″ (T-331 to T-342). The later is actually not a Super Puma helicopter (AS.332) anymore, but a “Cougar” (AS.532).
