Dutch P-3 Orion

The eyes of the Dutch fleet are the Lockheed-Martin P-3C-II½ Orions of the Marine Luchtvaartdienst (MLD, Naval Aviation Service). Thirteen Orions were ordered in 1978 to replace the Lockheed SP-2H Neptunes and the Brequet Br1150 Atlantics. The first four P-3s were delivered to Valkenburg on 21 July 1982 and the last one on 14 September 1984. Both 320 and 321 squadrons are equipped with Orions, but these units do not own any of the aircraft. Instead they take needed aircraft from a central pool.
